I’m studying Job this summer with my bible study group and I’m amazed at how quickly his friends moved in to explain away Job’s troubles. Yes they waited seven days before speaking, but then came a volley of arrogant platitudes trying to help him see it was all his fault.
Job’s friends were Christians and sometimes we can be the worst. A mom who is sobbing on tv because she doesn’t know if her son is dead but fears he is does not need words. She doesn’t need verses. And please don’t tell her his lifestyle choice is the cause. Don’t make it doubly hard.
Weep with those who weep.
Mourn with those who mourn.
And pray for the hearts of these who are experiencing great loss that they will in time say with Job, Blessed be the name of the Lord. Let God be God.
