You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7a,9
I have a handful of friends who decided to take these verses quite literally. Whenever they were in the midst of a home improvement project exposing the beams of their homes, they picked up permanent markers to scrawl verse after verse on the drywall, the plywood, the two-by-fours.
It wasn’t as if they believed it was some sort of mystical talisman. Rather, it was an expression of their desire for God to be inscribed even on their walls. Hidden in the layers of their homes are the evergreen promises of God! Their birthday parties, family dinners, and baskets of laundry are surrounded by His Words, figuratively and literally.
I’ll allay your questions—Ever Thine Home does not plan on adding Sharpie markers to our repertoire. But we do hold to the verses above as part of the foundation for our products: We can bathe our homes in God’s truth. Our homes—and our physical houses—can breathe who He is. We commit not to forget; we commit to dwell with Him.
As for your actual doorposts…well, we’ve got you covered! Every time my eye catches our “Leave Him Thanks” wreath, I’m pleasantly moved. It bursts with gold-edged leaves of vintage paper, printed with verses and hymns of praise. And I left mine up all year hanging in a window so I’m ready for fall as soon as its first breath of cool air arrives in just a few short weeks.
