Collecting old Bibles, books and hymnals is a new enjoyment of mine for many reasons, but primarily these old volumes contain words of wisdom and most are beautifully illustrated, something we moderns have lost. Today I read in a small devotional book, God’s Minute, 365 Daily Prayers for Home Worship, this sentence in the prayer for September 3:
“Deliver us, we pray, from all foolish over-estimate of the worth of transitory things here, enable us to rise above the temptations of the fleeting present, and to find in Thyself the treasure that the world cannot give, and no change can take away.”
Timeless truth. Treasure in Christ is beauty without end. May this short prayer, published in 1916, be spoken in your heart today.
